SFA make decision on Scot Gemmill future after 10 years as Scotland Under-21s head coach

SFA statement confirms departure of former Scotland midfielder

Scot Gemmill has left his role as head coach of Scotland’s Under-21s after 10 years in the post.

The 26-times capped former Scotland midfielder was promoted to the position in September 2016 after spells with the Under-17s and Under-19s, but failed to qualify for any major tournament across his tenure.

His departure leaves the Scottish Football Association searching for a new manager for both senior and Under-21 teams following the resignation of national head coach Steve Clarke after Scotland's World Cup exit.

SFA’s Chief Football Officer, Craig Mulholland, who was appointed in May, said: “On behalf of the Scottish FA, I’d like to thank Scot for his many years of dedicated service to the game in this country.

“He is held in the highest esteem by those who have worked alongside him, and I know that respect extends to the countless young players who have played under him at the various age levels.

“As a player and coach Scot has represented Scotland with distinction and I know that means a lot to him. We wish him well in his next opportunity.”
