Scott McTominay matches Champions League scoring record as son of Celtic legend dents Napoli hopes

Scotland midfielder on target again as he emulates ex-Rangers star

Scott McTominay continued his remarkable scoring record in the Champions League but Napoli's hopes of reaching the knockout stages were dealt a blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw in Denmark.

The Scotland midfielder grabbed his fourth goal of the campaign in Europe's elite competition to put the Italians ahead against 10-man FC Copenhagen in the first-half at Parken Stadium on Tuesday night.

However, a second half equaliser from Jordan Larsson - the son of Celtic legend Henrik - rescued a point for the hosts, who had captain Tomas Delaney sent off in the 35th minute after catching Stanislav Lobotka high with his studs.

McTominay's opener - a towering header from an Eljif Elmas corner - arrived four minutes later and appeared to set Napoli on their way to a much-needed victory.

It was a notable goal for the former Manchester United man as he became the joint-highest scoring Scottish player in the competition's history (five goals) alongside Kenny Miller.

It was also his ninth of the season for Napoli, taking his total goal tally for the Serie A club to 22 since he joined from Old Trafford for £25million 18 months ago.

However, Antonio Conte's side were unable to hold onto their lead despite the numerical advantage as they gifted the hosts a way back when Alessandro Buongiorno felled Mohamed Elyounoussi in the penalty area.

Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic saved Larsson's spot-kick but the ball fell straight into the path of the Swedish substitute, who tucked home the rebound.

The draw leaves Napoli 23rd in the table with one game left to play. They will have to beat Chelsea in Naples on January 28 to guarantee a place in the play-off round.
