Scott McTominay conjures up another Serie A goal contribution as 'dominant' Man Utd loanee nets double

Old Trafford combination delivers again for Napoli

Scotland star Scott McTominay combined with former Manchester United colleague Rasmus Hojlund to help deliver a crucial victory for Napoli in Serie A on Sunday.

The duo have been key players for the Naples outfit since departing Old Trafford with McTominay playing a leading role in last season's scudetto triumph following his £25million transfer in the summer of 2024 while Hojlund has rediscovering his scoring touch in Italy after completing a season-long loan move from Manchester United on September 1.

The pair lifted silverware earlier this week after Napoli clinched the Supercoppa Italiana trophy with a 2-0 win over Bologna in Monday's final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Napoli returned to league action away at Cremonese on Sunday where they came up against former Premier League rival Jamie Vardy, who left Leicester City after 13 years in the summer.

It was Hojlund who stole the show at Stadio Giovanni Zini, netting a double in a 2-0 victory, with McTominay providing the assist on the second goal on the stroke of half-time with a knock-down, the Denmark international having opened the scoring in the 13th minute.

It was a second brace of the season for Hojlund, who now has nine goals and three assists in all competitions, while McTominay now has four assists to add to his five goals for the campaign to date.

Afterwards Napoli head coach Antonio Conte stated: "Hojlund is very young, only 22, and he's a player with a lot of room for improvement. He's becoming a dominant player who always understands the best options. In my style of football, strikers are always important, and he has incredible room for growth."

The victory leaves defending champions Napoli third in the Serie A table, two points behind leaders Inter Milan, and one point behind second-placed AC Milan.

Elsewhere, Lennon Miller made his first Serie A appearance for Udinese since October 29 when he came off the bench in the 87th minute of the 1-1 draw with Lazio on Saturday. The 19-year-old Scotland international has barely featured for his new side since completing a £4.7million move from Motherwell in the summer with only one start in the Coppa Italia against Palermo - which he marked with a goal - in addition to six substitute appearances.

Scotland striker Che Adams picked up an assist but was on the losing side as Torino went down to a 2-1 home defeat to Cagliari. Adams hit double figures for Torino last season but has found the net less often so far this season with three goals in 18 appearances thus far.

Lewis Ferguson’s Bologna and Josh Doig’s Sassuolo squared off on Sunday evening in a 1-1 draw in Serie A. Both Scotland players were named on the bench with Ferguson remaining an unused substitute while Doig was brought on for the final half hour.
