Scott McTominay books Saudi Arabia final and clashes with England star as Man Utd loanee hits dozen

Scotland star helps Napoli into Supercoppa Italiana final

Scott McTominay took a major step towards winning more silverware with Napoli after helping his side to a 2-0 win over AC Milan in the semi-final of Supercoppa Italiana.

The annual tournament involving the winners and runners-up of Serie A and the Coppa Italia the previous season is being staged at the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Napoli, as league winners, faced losing cup finalists Milan in the first semi-final on Thursday night and came out on top thanks to goals from David Neres on 39 minutes and Rasmus Hojlund on 63 minutes.

Hojlund was the star of the show, running the Milan defence ragged all night. His precise cutback for Neres’ opener and tight-angled finish for the second means that the Manchester United loanee has now hit 12 goals and three assists for Napoli this season.

McTominay was involved in a heated clash with Milan’s Fikayo Tomori towards the end of the match when he raced into a challenge with the England international, who responded by blasting the ball in the direction of the Scotland star.

McTominay reacted furiously with the pair squaring up to each other, face-to-face, before being separated by team-mates with the incident resulting in a booking for both players.

Lewis Ferguson will attempt to join McTominay in Monday's final and guarantee Scottish hands on the trophy when his Bologna side take on Inter Milan in the second semi-final on Friday night.

Former Aberdeen midfielder Ferguson captained Bologna to Coppa Italia glory last season while Inter finished runners-up behind Napoli in the league.
