Scotland's 50-cap man ruled out of upcoming matches after medical tests

Striker was left out of Pocognoli’s first squad

Torino have confirmed that Scotland striker Che Adams has suffered a thigh strain, with the 30-year-old not expected to be back until after the international break.

Adams missed Torino’s 2-0 Serie A defeat by Roma on Monday evening and Il Toro gave an update less than 24 hours later on the former Southampton hitman, who was not named in new Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli’s squad on Tuesday.

After undergoing medical tests, Torino said on Adams: “Torino Football Club announces that the medical tests undergone by Che Adams have revealed a low-grade strain to the adductor muscles of his left thigh. The recovery timeline will be determined based on the clinical progression of the injury.”

Adams will now miss this weekend’s match against Bologna - who have Scotland midfielder Lewis Ferguson in their ranks - before Serie A shuts down for three weeks during the international break.

It remains to be seen whether Adams will be available for the game against Udinese on October 12.

Adams has been a mainstay of the Scotland squad after switching international allegiance from England five years ago. He has won 50 caps and scored 13 goals - all of which came under previous manager Steve Clarke.

Adams is understood to still be in Pocognoli’s thoughts, although the Scotland frontline will be led by either Oli McBurnie, Kieron Bowie or James Wilson in his absence.
