Scotland’s World Cup qualification campaign begins on Friday night when Steve Clarke’s men face Denmark at Parken Stadion in Copenhagen.
The Scots have six matches in Group C - two against the Danes, Greece and Belarus - with the top team qualifying automatically for next summer’s tournament in USA, Canada and Mexico. The second-placed team will earn a play-off tie in March next year.
All eyes are now on the Danish capital as this current crop of Scotland players bid to get the nation to a World Cup for the first time since 1998.
Here is the team I would go for to get the job done in Copenhagen:

5. Andy Robertson
Another player like Gunn who’s become even better because the rival for his place is not pulling up any trees, which in Robertson’s case is Kieran Tierney. The Celtic full-back has looked sluggish since returning to Parkhead and has now pulled out of the squad due to injury. Robertson, despite being out of the team at Liverpool, would have won this battle with Tierney for a place in any case – if it is even a battle any longer. | SNS Group

6. Billy Gilmour
Still at the nascent stage of his season with Napoli, where he has played just a few minutes off the bench, but he is still a no-brainer for selection as one of two deep-lying midfielders. It isn’t every everyday Scotland can pick not one, but two Serie A winners in their starting XI. | SNS Group

7. Lennon Miller
Such a bright presence in Scotland’s last game against Liechtenstein, it might represent a bit of a gamble giving someone so young their competitive debut in a high-octane fixture. But now at Udinese, why not be bold and ask the 19-year-old to go again against Denmark? | SNS Group

8. Ben Gannon-Doak
Isn’t fazed by seemingly difficult assignments in tough venues abroad, as evidenced by displays v Poland in Warsaw and against Croatia in Zagreb last season. Still adapting to life at Bournemouth, where he has played only a half, but should be raring to go. | SNS Group
