Scotland chalk up another big win in quest for next year's World Cup
Andreatta’s side make light work of Luxembourg at Hampden
Scotland hammered Luxembourg for a second time this week to make it two wins from two at the start of their 2027 Women’s World Cup qualification campaign.
Scotland followed Tuesday’s 5-0 win in Esch-sur-Alzette with an even more emphatic 7-0 victory at Hampden Park. Braces from Kathleen McGovern and Jenna Clark did the bulk of the damage for Scotland before Lauren Davidson, Emma Lawton and Maria McAneny netted late on, with captain Caroline Weir, who hit a hat-trick in the week, involved in four of the goals.
It took Melissa Andreatta’s team only 36 seconds to break the deadlock, with Weir’s pass setting up McGovern for the opener. Clark doubled the advantage after 10 minutes when she scored from Weir’s corner before McGovern added a third in the 31st minute.

It remained 3-0 at half-time, but Scotland made their dominance count after the break as Clark grabbed a fourth from another fine set-piece delivery from Weir.
Davidson touched home with 12 minutes left to match Scotland’s score from the first meeting. However, the hosts were not finished there as substitute Lawton flicked in a sixth from another Weir corner in the 89th minute before McAneny completed the rout in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Andreatta said afterwards: "I see a group of players really clear about what they want to do and where they want to go. After the match you let yourself look to the future and they're looking at what might come next and how they can take another step forward to be even better.
"The positive is that we were in good positions, creating good chances in a variety of different ways - from set pieces, from wide areas, from central areas.
"Even more importantly I want players to take this form back to club, scoring goals for their clubs, fighting to win the ball back, that's all going to count to what we do again in the next window."
Scotland are back in action next month when they host Belgium on April 14 at Hampden.
