Scotland players given a hero’s send-off as they board plane for America

Scotland players are on their way to the World Cup after boarding a plane to America for the country's first appearance at the tournament in 28 years.

The squad departed from Glasgow Airport on Sunday morning for the journey to their pre-World Cup base at Inter Miami's state-of-the-art training facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Fans and bagpipers lined the tarmac to wave the players off after the team gave the Tartan Army a victorious send-off at Hampden Park the previous day with a 4-1 friendly win over Curacao.

Scotland will play their final warm-up against Bolivia in Harrison, New Jersey, on Saturday, June 6, before their World Cup campaign begins against Haiti in Boston on Sunday, June 14 with further Group C matches against Morocco, also in Boston, and Brazil, in Miami, to follow.

One player named in Steve Clarke's original 26-man squad has been left at home with Billy Gilmour spotted outside the team hotel in Glasgow on crutches after injuring his knee against Curacao.

A scan confirmed the devastating news that the Napoli midfielder has been ruled out of the World Cup with Manchester United youngster Tyler Fletcher called up as his replacement.

Here is a selection of pictures as the squad departed for the USA...
