'I don't know': Scotland and Aston Villa wait for John McGinn updates after midfielder suffers injury
Villa captain limped off during defeat by Everton
Scotland midfielder John McGinn is facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury in Aston Villa’s 1-0 defeat by Everton.
McGinn, who is the Villa captain, went down clutching his knee during the English Premier League match at home to the Toffees and was helped off the pitch by medical staff. He was replaced by Evan Guessand after 18 minutes.
The 31-year-old former Hibs and St Mirren man has been an integral part of Aston Villa’s success this season. Unai Emery’s side sit third in the EPL and were on a fine run of form at home before Everton sprang a surprise thanks to Thierno Barry’s second-half strike.

Emery admitted it was a concern to see McGinn limp off with an injury, with his condition to be assessed in the coming days.
“When some players are getting injured it is not good but it is football and we have to accept it,” Emery said. “It is an opportunity for other players to play.
“I don’t know what his (McGinn’s) injury is but it is his knee. I think this week we will know more about [Boubacar] Kamara. But at the moment he is going to be out.”
Scotland supporters will also be awaiting updates on McGinn’s fitness. He is an integral part of Steve Clarke’s national team and helped them qualify for this summer’s World Cup.
Scotland are next due to play in late March, with friendlies expected to be confirmed next week against Japan at Hampden and then Ivory Coast in either Newcastle or Liverpool.
The World Cup starts on June 13 for Scotland when they face Haiti in Boston.
