Steve Clarke and his side got the victory they needed going into Tuesday’s crunch fixture in Austria but there wasn’t much about the performance to get fans excited ahead of the match in Vienna.
Lyndon Dykes opened the scoring in the 14th minute after Nathan Patterson’s shot was parried into his path. And that was it.
Scotland wasted a couple of great chances to extend their lead but, while they weren’t really troubled at the other end, they should’ve done more to break down a side who lost 8-0 to Denmark and four in Israel.

Similar to Tierney, looked dangerous on a couple of occasions but another player would symbolised our passive play. Needed to charge forward and offer an option more often. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group

Did create two great chances, including the one which led to the opener, but he seemed quite off it overall tonight. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group

11. FC - Lyndon Dykes - 7
Scored the opener and was good at holding up the ball when played up to him, something Scotland should've done more of as Moldova had no answer for it. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group

Gave a little energy off the bench but ultimately didn't improve the quality. Photo: Alan Harvey - SNS Group
