Scotland’s first home game under new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli saw them fall to a disappointing 3-0 Nations League defeat to Switzerland at Hampden Park on Tuesday night.
The Belgian boss was in the dugout for the first time at the national stadium, but took a major blow when centre-back Jack Hendry was shown a straight red card after pulling down Switzerland winger Dan Ndoye as he raced through on goal.
The Al-Ettifaq defender was initially shown a yellow card, and a penalty was awarded. However, a VAR intervention saw referee Nenan Minakovic reverse his decision and give a free-kick on the edge of the area instead, while Hendry’s booking was upgraded to a red. Typically, it didn’t matter as Ricardo Rodriguez blasted home the resulting free-kick.
Nico Elvedi added a clinching second just after the restart (56), and in-form Burnley striker Zeki Amdouni added the third late on (82) as Switzerland ran out comfortable winners in Mount Florida.
The result leaves Scotland in third place in Nations League group E after two games, with a trip to North Macedonia in Skopje next up on Saturday evening.
