'Big part of our plans' - Hibs delight as key player secured on contract extension
28-year-old defender commits until 2028
Hibs have rewarded defender Jack Iredale for his part in their stunning burst of form by extending his contract for an additional two years until summer 2028.
The 28-year-old Australian joined Hibs last August on a two-year deal following his departure from Bolton.
Iredale was a peripheral figure in his early months at Easter Road as David Gray’s side struggled at the bottom of the William Hill Premiership.
But, after making his first start for the Hibs in their dramatic 3-3 draw with Aberdeen in late November, he has started their last 23 matches, becoming a mainstay of a team that are now up to third place and on a record-equalling 17-game unbeaten run in the league.

The Edinburgh club have now moved to ensure he is under contract for a further three seasons beyond this one.
“Jack has been a fantastic addition to our squad this year, he is a top professional and he’s a good player,” Gray told Hibs’ website. “He had to wait patiently for his chance this season, but he grasped it with both hands and is thoroughly deserving of his new deal.
“We are all excited to continue working with Jack over the next few years.”
The highlight of Iredale’s time at Easter Road was a sensational winner against city rivals Hearts in March.
Sporting director Malky Mackay added: “We are delighted that Jack has committed his future to the club. He is a good character and role model for the younger players coming through and an all-round top professional.
“He adds consistency and strength in depth to our back line and is a big part of our plans moving forward. His performances this season have been excellent and we are all excited to watch his progress over the next few seasons.”
Iredale is the second Hibs player to sign a new contract this week after right-back Lewis Miller was secured on a deal until the end of next season on Tuesday.
