How to watch Hearts v St Mirren

Hearts have an opportunity to strengthen their grip on first place in the Scottish Premiership when they host St Mirren on Wednesday night.

The Tynecastle side are currently three points clear of second-placed Rangers with a game in hand and six ahead of Celtic in third having played the same number of games as Martin O’Neill’s men.

Hearts go into the match on the back of a hard fought 1-0 win at Dundee on Sunday - where the league leaders played the entire second half with 10 men following a red card for goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow on the stroke of half-time. An injury-time wonder save from his replacement Craig Gordon made the headlines as the 43-year-old secured the points for his side in his first appearance of the season.

It was a fifth victory in six league matches for Derek McInnes’ men, who are bidding to become the first non-Old Firm side to lift the title since Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen in 1985. A home victory over St Mirren will ensure the Jambos stay at least six points ahead of Celtic ahead of hosting the defending champions at Tynecastle in their next league match on January 25.

The Buddies have endured a tough time of it since lifting the Premier Sports Cup last month with injuries contributing to a dismal run that has seen Stephen Robinson’s men slump to 10th place in the table after collecting just four points from a possible 18. Saints travel to Edinburgh looking to bounce back from three consecutive defeats having scored just two goals in their last five matches.

The sides have met twice previously this season, both in Paisley, with Hearts losing on penalties in the Premier Sports Cup last 16 in August before the 2-2 draw in the league in October.
