Hearts manager latest as experienced candidate interviewed and new signing completed
Dutchman remains favourite to succeed McInnes at Tynecastle
Hearts have interviewed René Hake for their managerial vacancy and plan to speak to further candidates in the coming days.
The Tynecastle outfit are moving swiftly following Derek McInnes’ departure to Rangers on Wednesday and hope to have a new head coach appointed next week. Hearts officials have met Hake and the Dutchman is currently the bookmakers’ favourite to land the role.
Hake is a 54-year-old Dutchman whose most recent managerial job was with Go Ahead Eagles in his homeland two years ago. Since then, he has held coaching positions at Manchester United under Erik ten Haag and Feyenoord with Robin van Persie. He has also managed Emmen, Twente, Cambuur and Utrecht.

Currently a free agent, Hake was also in the running for the recent Leicester City vacancy that was filled by ex-Rangers boss Russell Martin.
Hearts return for pre-season training next week and their board, as well as Jamestown Analytics, are striving for a quick appointment. Their competitive matches start in late July with a Champions League second qualifying round tie against Sturm Graz of Austria.
Despite being managerless, Hearts continue to be active in the transfer market, and on Thursday completed the signing of York City defender Malachi Fagan-Walcott.
Hearts are understood to have paid a fee in the region of £700,000 for the 24-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate, who previously had loan spells in Scotland with Dundee and Dunfermline Athletic. He has penned a four-year deal at Tynecastle.
Fagan-Walcott is Hearts’ fifth summer signing, following the arrivals of Josh McPake, Calvin Miller, MJ Kamson-Kamara and Amadou Ba-Sy.
