Dexter Lembikisa on his Jamaica wonder goal as Wolves loanee answers Hearts future question

Jambos fans – and the rest of the football world – were left in awe late on Sunday evening when the Wolves loanee started to trend across social media as footage emerged of his wonder strike for Jamaica.

The 20-year-old's first senior international goal no less, a 30-yard stunner on his weaker left foot which flew into the top corner to earn his country a 1-0 win over Panama and a third place finish in the Concacaf Nations League.

Back at the Oriam for Hearts training this week, a big smile breaks out across Lembikisa's face as he is asked to talk through the goal that lit up the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas before going viral on the internet.

"I saw Bobby [De Cordova-Reid] coming deeper to get the ball and then the space between the centre-back and full-back opened up. Michael Hector found me with a good ball. I just cut in, did a stepover and hit a shot and it went in the top bin. It was with my left foot as well.

"I scored one I'd rank similar to that for Rotherham. It as quite a good goal but I like that goal last week. I like to shoot and I like to try and attack so I will definitely look to get some goals [for Hearts].

"Obviously I was really happy. It was my first goal and a good goal, but in the previous game against the USA we were 1-0 up for the whole game and then they equalised. I was just trying to make sure we finished the game strongly to win the game."

Lembikisa joined Hearts on loan in the January transfer window from Wolves having spent the first half of the season in the English Championship with Rotherham. Signed to provide competition for right-back Nathanial Atkinson, he has started six matches out of nine matches thus far, scoring once.

Has the move to Tynecastle lived up to expectations? "Yeah, I’ve enjoyed it a lot to be fair," he said. "I’ve enjoyed the football and being away from home, I’ve enjoyed Edinburgh and met good people up here. There is a lot of attacking football play as well and I’ve enjoyed my football and training everyday, it’s been nice.”

As things stand Lembikisa will return to Molineux in the summer but he admits he would be open to a longer spell at Tynecastle if the opportunity presented itself.

"Potentially, whatever Gods will is for me," he said. "There haven't been any discussions about that yet."
