The Parkhead side sit 16 points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers at the turn of the year, albeit with three games in hand, and look as if they are going to falter at the final hurdle in their hunt for ten-in-a-row.
However, everything could change with a victory over Steven Gerrard’s men and, unlike this time a month ago, there are reasons for optimism.
Celtic have won their last six matches in all competitions and Neil Lennon finally appears to have found a formula to get the best out of his side in what’s been a trying season.
The 4-4-2 diamond makes up for the lack of natural options on the flanks with the injuries to James Forrest and Michael Johnston, who has just returned, enables Lennon to select two strikers in the starting XI and has helped unleash David Turnbull.
We’re sure he’s going to stick with the same system, but what about the personnel?

5. DL - Greg Taylor
Was seen as a weak link earlier in the season though replacement Diego Laxalt hasn't proven himself to be any better. May thrive in his more natural left-back role. Photo: Craig Foy - SNS Group

6. DM - Scott Brown
He really, really shouldn't, but we believe Lennon will talk himself into returning his captain to the starting XI for a game of such importance. Photo: Craig Foy - SNS Group

7. MRC - Ryan Christie
The Scottish international will likely start on the right of the diamond, as he has done in recent weeks. Photo: Craig Williamson - SNS Group

8. MLC - Callum McGregor
Is a certainty to play alongside Christie in the diamond and will captain the team if Brown doesn't play. Photo: Craig Foy - SNS Group
