Celtic eye £8m UCL striker, Rangers star is Serie A target, Hearts not finished yet - Scottish transfer news

Latest Scottish transfer rumours

Here is your Saturday morning transfer round-up from across the Scottish Premiership...

Celtic eye £8m UCL striker

Celtic are in the market for a Kyogo Furuhashi replacement after selling the Japanese striker to Rennes for £10million. Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden remains a priority target, but with the Danish club rejecting a £4m offer in the summer, and now looking for in excess of £10m for the 22-year-old, Celtic could be forced to look elsewhere. Now a new name has entered the frame with a report claiming Slovan Bratislava striker David Strelec has emerged as a possible solution. The Slovakian international, who is valued at £8m, has already played at Celtic Park this season, having been on the end of a 5-1 defeat in the Champions League back in November. According to the Daily Record, Strelec is high on Celtic's January wanted list, with Brendan Rodgers' side exploring a number of options ahead of Monday's transfer deadline. Middlesbrough have already had a bid for Strelec rejected with Bratislava said to value the 23-year-old at £8m. Meanwhile, Celtic winger Luis Palma has completed his move to Olympiacos after the Greek club announced his arrival on Saturday morning. The deal for the Honduras international involves a loan with an option to buy for £3.3million. Celtic are pursuing Sarpsborg winger Sondre Ørjasæter but have had an opening bid of £4.6 million rejected for the 21-year-old.

Rangers star is Serie A target

Cyriel Dessers could depart Rangers before the transfer window shuts with one club reportedly keen to secure the striker on a deadline-busting deal. The 30-year-old has been in good form recently, scoring six goals in his last five games and reclaiming his place in the starting XI. The Nigerian continues to split the Rangers support, but his 18 goals and six assists this season point to a player who would be missed should he be sold before the window shuts. A number of clubs across Europe have been linked with Dessers this window including Cagliari, Empoli and Monza in Serie A as well as La Liga outfit Leganes. According to Italian outlet Rai News, Cagliari are set to move to the front of the queue as they seek a replacement for their soon-to-depart striker Gianluca Lapadula, who is set to join Spezia. Whether Rangers are willing to cash in on Dessers in the current window given his recent contribution remains to be seen.

Rangers title winner seals Saudi switch

Former Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has completed a surprise move to Saudi Arabia just six months after joining Rennes. The French club paid £8m to sign the Finland international from Leeds United last summer, but he was axed from the first-team squad under boss Jorge Sampaoli, who himself was sacked this week. Kamara was placed on the transfer list alongside Jota, who has rejoined Celtic with Kyogo Furuhashi in the opposite direction, and a return to England was mooted by Middlesbrough and Sunderland credited with an interest. However, he has joined the growing contigent of European footballers in the Middle East after sealing a loan move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab.

Hearts not finished yet

Neil Critchley could be set to further strengthen his Hearts squad in the closing days of the transfer window. The Tynecastle side have already recruited four players this month with Jamie McCart, Elton Kabangu, Sander Kartum and Michael Steinwender all arriving. However, Critchley admitted that the club are still actively looking for more signings ahead of Monday night's deadline. “I’m happy with what we’ve done so far,” he said. “We had a plan in place and we wanted to bring in certain players in certain areas of the pitch. I think we’ve done that and I think we’ve strengthened. I’m really pleased with the players that we’ve brought in. I think they’re going to make a big difference to us. “We’ll see what happens in the next 72 hours. We’re still looking, we’re still searching. If we can strengthen, we will.”
