Celtic eye Bodo/Glimt raid as Rangers target former striker for Ibrox return - Scottish transfers

Latest transfer rumours from around Scottish football

The transfer window does not open until June 15 but the speculation and rumours are ramping up now that the domestic season is over.

Here is your Monday evening transfer wrap featuring updates from Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and Hearts...

Celtic eye Bodo/Glimt raid

Cetlic have reignited their interest in Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh, according to a report. The Parkhead club were linked with the Danish centre-forward in January but no move materialised after Bodo/Glimt's Champions League heroics drove up the asking price. Hogh scores six times as the Norwegians enjoyed a fairytale run to the last 16 with the 25-year-old netting against Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Sporting Lisbon.

According to The Herald, Celtic remain keen on the 25-year-old, who has already claimed five goals in nine games since the resumption of the Eliteserien in April. The report also states that Celtic are continuing to monitor the form of Go Ahead Eagles winger Jakob Breum after having multiple bids rejected in January. The 22-year-old Dane finished the season with six goals and seven assists in 37 appearances for the Dutch side.

Rangers target former striker

Rangers are closing in on the signing of Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland but another familiar face could be on his way to Ibrox. That's because the Ibrox club are again being linked with a move for Wrexham striker Josh Windass, who made 55 appearances for the Light Blues between 2016 and 2018.

Rangers boss Danny Rohl is a big admirer of the player, who he worked with at Sheffied Wednesday, and failed in a bid to bring him back to Glasgow in January. Windass contributed 16 goals and seven assists for Wrexham in the English Championship last season. Sports broadcaster Ben Jacobs claimed that Rangers have made a fresh approach to sign the 32-year-old but indicated that no club-to-club talks have taken place as yet.

Shankland, meanwhile, is expected to undergo a medical on Tuesday before formalising his move from Hearts. The 30-year-old has already agreed a deal with the Ibrox club after they triggered a break clause allowing him to leave Tynecastle. The transfer, which has left Hearts supporters reeling, will be announced by the two clubs on “undisclosed terms” upon completion of a medical.

Another Hearts exit on cards

Lawrence Shankland may not be the only Hearts player heading for a surprise exit amid reports that Islam Chesnokov has options to leave Scotland this summer following transfer interest from Kazakhstan. The player arrived in Edinburgh from Tobol Kostanay in January and is contracted until 2028, but he has the chance of a quick exit. Hearts would be entitled to a transfer fee if Chesnokov decides he would like to move.

The 26-year-old made 11 appearances for Hearts during the second half of the season and scored one goal - the winner against Falkirk in February’s Premiership tie. He has not yet fully established himself as a regular started in Derek McInnes’ team despite arriving with plenty hype from Kazakhstan.

Hearts officials are preparing for major changes to the squad this summer with several players out of contract, including Cammy Devlin, Beni Baningime, Frankie Kent, Craig Gordon and Alan Forrest. St Johnstone winger Josh McPake has signed a pre-contract to join Hearts for next season, and French midfielder Tom Renaud has committed his future to the club.

Hearts are keen to sign defenders MJ Kamson-Kamara and Malachi Fagan-Walcott from Lincoln City and York City respectively. They are also interested in the Falkirk winger Calvin Miller as a player who could provide additional creativity in the final third. There will also be a replacement for 30-year-old Shankland to reinforce the forward line for next season.

Aberdeen captain departs

Captain Graeme Shinnie has decided to leave Aberdeen in search of more regular game time. The 34-year-old, who skippered the Dons to Scottish Cup glory a year ago, was given the chance to remain at Pittodrie. However, recently-appointed manager Stephen Robinson was unable to give Shinnie assurances that he would play as often as he would like. The former Derby and Wigan midfielder, who has amassed 344 appearances over his two spells with the Dons, has been linked with a return to first club Inverness.

“Graeme was offered a two-year contract extension to remain at Pittodrie, including a meaningful pathway into coaching and wider non-playing responsibilities that would have taken him through to a testimonial season,” Aberdeen said in a statement. “However, after discussions with the club, Graeme has chosen to pursue the next stage of his career elsewhere.”
