Scotland have done it! Those goals, that Kieran Tierney strike, Scott McTominay scoring potentially Hampden’s greatest, those full-time scenes. Simply incredible.
Twice ahead through McTominay and Lawrence Shankland, and twice pegged back by 10-man Denmark, Steve Clarke’s side finally ended their agonising 28-year wait to qualify for the World Cup in the most dramatic fashion as injury-time goals from Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean sealed a breath-taking 4-2 win over Denmark at Hampden.
The Tartan Army were in fine voice all night, with head coach Clarke telling ensured they knew how much of a part they played in sealing Scotland’s place at next summer’s tournament in the aftermath of the victory, saying: “When it goes 2-1, they are right behind us, when it goes 2-2, I heard them again, and that was really important. Right in the last part of the game, the crowd was still with us. Everybody was in the stadium, nobody left because they could smell magic.”
