Cameron Adam jumps up Kenya leaderboard as Stephen Gallacher shines in Spain

Round up of DP World Tour, HotelPlanner Tour, Legends Tour and LPGA Tour action

Cameron Adam made one of the biggest jumps up the leaderboard in the second round of the Magical Kenya Open presented by absa to join fellow Scot David Law in the top 20 at the halfway stage.

Adam, who is in his rookie season on the DP World Tour, started the day sitting joint-69th after an opening one-under-par 69 at Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

The left-hander had spoken last week in Edinburgh during a break in the schedule about how he felt “there could be something good coming” and he was proved right in his second circuit.

Helped by seven birdies, including four in his last five holes, Adam carded a seven-under-par 63 to move to eight under and a share of 16th spot.

He’s five shots off the lead, held by Frenchman Frederic Lacroix, who fired a 62, and South African Casey Jarvis.

Law, who opened with a 63, was just one shot off the lead after covering his opening 12 holes on day two in five under.

The Aberdonian then dropped three shots on the spin but, in a tie for eighth on nine under, he’s right in the mix heading into the weekend.

Scott Jamieson (68-67) sits on five under while Euan Walker (69-67) made his first cut of the season on four under. Despite a second-round 65, Ewen Ferguson agonisingly missed out by a shot.

To the delight of the home fans, Kenyan 22-year-old Njoroge Kibugu eagled the par-5 18th to progress to the weekend on five under.

On the HotelPlanner Tour, Calum Fyfe carded a five-under 65 at Durban Country Club in the second round of the Jonsson Workwear Durban Open.

On nine under, the Glaswegian sits five shots off the lead, with Sam Locke being the only other Scot to make the cut on four under.

Meanwhile, Stephen Gallacher - Adam is a product of his junior foundation - fared best among the Scots in the Staysure Legends Tour’s season-opener in Spain.

The former Ryder Cup player carded a four-under 68 at Aloha Golf Club to sit joint-third, two shots off the lead, in the Staysure Marbella Legends event.

As local hero Miguel Angel Jimenez set the pace along with Swede Joakim Haeggman, Alastair Forsyth had to settle for a 73 on his over-50s’ debut after finishing with three bogeys.

Elsewhere, Gemma Dryburgh slipped down the leaderboard in the second round of the Honda LPGA Thailand event after following her opening 66 with a 73.
