The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award (or SPOTY) was first held in 1954 when around 14,500 voters decided (controversially, in retrospect) to crown Christopher Chataway over fellow runner Roger Bannister.
Since then the winners read like a roll call of British sporting greats, with the likes of Mo Farah, Ian Botham, Nick Faldo, Steve Redgrave, Lewis Hamilton, Kelly Holmes and David Beckham all lifting the trophy.
Several Scots have also lifted the trophy, including Sir Andy Murray (a record three times), Sir Jackie Stewart, Liz McColgan and Sir Chris Hoy.
This year it looks like Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is the one to beat after his history-making win at the Masters.
But several of the history-making Lionesses might have something to say about that - with England winning their second consecutive European Championship.
Here are the 13 sportspeople the bookies reckon have the best chance of being crowned SPOTY 2025.

5. Luke Littler - 9/1
Darts prodigy Luke 'The Nuke' Littler won the Young Sports Personality of the Year trophy at last year's ceremony, also coming second in the main award. He's since won his first World Championship, thrown numerous nine-darters and is the biggest name in his sport. He has dropped from being secind favourite to the 9/1 fifth favourite - perhaps because his sport's biggest tournamanet is held just after the SPORTY trophy is presented each year. | Getty Images

6. Leah Williamson - 16/1
Captain Fantastic Leah Williamson led England to their record-breaking European Championship win and is a 16/1 shot for the SPOTY. You'd imagine her squad are unbeatable for Team of the Year at the awards. | Getty Images

7. Lucy Bronze - 20/1
Yet another Lioness on the list is Lucy Bronze - with odds of 20/1. She's represented England in every major championship since Euro 2013. The former national captain is regularly mentioned in converations about the best players of all time. | AFP via Getty Images

8. Ellie Kildunne - 25/1
This year saw Ellie Kildunne mark her 50th appearance for England cap. The winner of last year's World Rugby Women's 15s Player of the Year will be representing he country at this year's 2025 Rugby World Cup - a win there could see her SPOTY odds tumble from their current 25/1. | Getty Images
