Why Autumn is the perfect time to visit Rosslyn Chapel - nearly 600 years of history and a lot of fun

Autumn at Rosslyn Chapel is a wonderful time to visit – the summer crowds have gone and the stunning landscape in and above Roslin Glen is resplendent with amazing seasonal colours.
It is easy to overlook some of the great places on our doorstep, this one is a must visit.
And there is a lot to enjoy. The chapel was founded in 1446 meaning you can take in nearly 600 years of history.
Practically every stone surface inside and outside is carved in an outstanding display of craftsmanship. And a free map helps you to find key features such as the Apprentice Pillar, the angel playing bagpipes, the green men and much more
You can listen to one of the free talks from Chapel Guides which take place throughout the day. There is also a free children’s guide for younger visitors (and admission is free for children in a family group).

Find out a new fact or two
There is a wealth of interesting stories to explore at the chapel. When it was built, bees were considered sacred and so hives were incorporated into the Chapel’s roof to provide safe havens when the weather was bad. There are now 3 hives in the Chapel grounds producing honey and retaining that link between bees and the Chapel
And did you know the St Clair family, who founded the Chapel, held the position of Prince of Orkney over 3 generations until Orkney became part of Scotland in 1471? The Chapel’s gift shop includes a number of items from Orkney – including jewellery, gin and biscuits – marking that link
