If you think you’ve done it all with travel adventures, it’s time to get off the beaten track and discover indigenous cultures in incredible scenery in the safe hands of Ullapool-based Nomadic Skies.

Dipping your toe into travel with Nomadic Skies means discovering whole new cultures where the warmth of local people in remote locations shines through.

Whether that’s meeting forest people, village elders, monks, yak herders and nomadic traders or immersing yourself in spectacular jungle, mountain, desertscenery, your adventure promises to be truly authentic and unique.

With former United Nations international development worker Gavin Anderson as one of its founders, you know you are in experienced hands to make your experience more meaningful.

Travel routes often follow the same trails and circuits, walking straight past amazing villages, communities and cultures and missing those unique experiences.

Gavin Anderson

He added: “If you’re going to travel then do it with purpose, while benefitting the local communities you travel through by using truly local guides and teams.”

On a journey with Nomadic Skies you will stay in the homes, lodges and hotels of local people and be invited to real local events rather than ones staged for the tourists.

Slower travel means immersing yourself in communities along the way, rather than racing to the top of Himalayan mountains.

He is also a mountaineer and trek leader.

Fellow founder James Appleton is an international guide, film maker and photographer who has worked across the globe. He joined one of their early journeys and fell in love with their way of travelling. ‘Meet’ the rest of their team here.

What size will my travel group be?

What helps make the experience special is the small group you will travel in. Most of their groups include between eight and 10 people and even larger groups include no more than a dozen.

Nomadic Skies trains local and indigenous guides and contributes to development in these areas including education, water and sanitation, and indigenous people’s rights. They therefore aim to offer ‘travel with purpose’ – where their journeys contribute to areas that are remote, have few economic opportunities and where rural migration and loss of culture pose significant challenges.
