Nominate the midwife who made a difference when you needed it most - Scotland’s Health Awards 2026

Celebrating the extraordinary contribution midwives make to the lives of women and families across Scotland, as the Royal College of Midwives sponsors Scotland’s Health Awards 2026.
Looking back at previous winners of the Midwife Award in Scotland’s Health Awards, a powerful theme emerges.
Year after year, it has recognised midwives and teams whose compassion, dedication and expertise have supported women through some of the most significant and challenging moments of their lives.
Many winners have been celebrated for making a real difference to women facing complex social, physical and mental health challenges. From Hilary Alba and Ann Allan – who were recognised for their work supporting vulnerable women during pregnancy – to the NHS Fife Vulnerable in Pregnancy (VIP) Team, and Jane Howie and the Blossom Team who were honoured for their commitment to providing specialist continuity of care.
The award has also recognised outstanding care within communities. The Orkney Midwives Team were winners for their unwavering support to mothers and families across the islands, while Vicky Blair was recognised for ensuring women and families felt safe, supported and cared for throughout their maternity journey.

Support after pregnancy loss
More recently, Melissa Lindsay was recognised for her compassionate bereavement support and leadership in improving care for families experiencing pregnancy loss.
Fellow winner Lucy Duns was recognised for going above and beyond routine maternity care to provide life-changing support to a woman experiencing domestic abuse.

Putting women at the centre of care
Although their stories are different, all of these winners were nominated for the same reason: Their unwavering commitment to putting women at the centre of care.
Whether that’s sharing the joy, providing reassurance during a difficult pregnancy, supporting families through loss, championing vulnerable women or offering kindness during times of uncertainty, they demonstrate the profound difference midwives make every day.
Their compassion, advocacy, and expertise continue to change lives, and we are proud to celebrate their achievements through the Midwife Award.
