A £15 million investment by Northcare is set to reshape perceptions of later-life living in Edinburgh, as Winton Suites by Northcare has started to welcome its first residents.
Developed and funded by the Sawers family business Northcare, the purpose-built residence at 5 Winton Drive represents one of the most significant recent investments in high-quality later-life accommodation in the capital.
Northcare began to welcome residents from March 23.
The development will create more than 50 permanent jobs across care, hospitality, administration and management roles - delivering sustained economic impact and long-term employment opportunities within the local community.

Exceptional standards of care
But beyond investment and employment, the opening signals something more profound: A continued commitment to redefining what a care home should - and can - feel like.
Craig Moody, Head of Client Relations at Northcare, said: “For too long, later-life care has been associated with clinical, institutional environments. Families today quite rightly expect more.
“Our commitment is clear: care should enhance quality of life, not diminish it. Winton Suites has been designed to feel warm, aspirational and welcoming, while delivering exceptional standards of care behind the scenes.”
This is about living well - with dignity, independence and genuine connection.
Winton Suites has been designed around a hospitality-led model, featuring spacious private suites, elegant shared lounges, restaurant-style dining and carefully curated social spaces - reflecting changing expectations of ageing and wellbeing.
Northcare was founded by Margaret Sawers following her own experience navigating care for a loved one.

Committed to wellbeing, lifestyle and community
Determined to create environments that felt reassuring, dignified and family-centred, she built the organisation around a simple but powerful principle: care should feel like family.
Today, she is joined by her children, William and Katie Sawers, ensuring that as the group expands, it remains firmly grounded in its founding purpose.
As demographic change accelerates across Scotland, Northcare remains committed to investing in environments that prioritise wellbeing, lifestyle and community - not simply accommodation.
