Challenge yourself to do something amazing in 2025

Organised by cancer charity Walk the Walk, renowned for their iconic night-time fundraising challenges including The MoonWalk Scotland, this event promises an unforgettable experience supporting a great cause.

The 26.2 mile marathon route around remote Lake Mývatn in the north-east of the country showcases Iceland’s rich wildlife, striking volcanic scenery and ancient lava formations. The marathon starts at midnight and the sun doesn’t set for long, giving you the opportunity to take in the breathtaking scenery and beautiful wilderness.

After crossing the finish line, you can unwind in the soothing, mineral-rich hot springs at the nearby Nature Baths – perfect for post-marathon rejuvenation.

The full Moonwalk Iceland trip takes place from May 29 to June 3, offering you the chance to take in many of Iceland’s most iconic sights either side of the night walk on Saturday, May 31.

“It’s a very unique and special landscape like nowhere else and those who join us are in for an adventure,” says Nina Barough, founder and chief executive of Walk the Walk. “From the moment our participants touch down, it’s an action-packed experience from start to end, finishing off the trip relaxing in the mineral waters of the Blue Lagoon.”

Start your training in plenty of time

Walk the Walk has been running The MoonWalk Iceland for more than a decade, so the team know exactly what you need to be in great shape for the big day. A 12-week training plan will be sent out with your welcome pack and the events team will be on hand with support every step of the way, both in the run-up to the event and on the day.

“We see women and men of all ages taking part each year,” adds Nina. “There’s no need to feel daunted by the distance because we are here to help; we’re always at the end of the phone to offer tips on training or fundraising.

“The wonderful thing about walking is that, provided you are already walking, progress happens really fast. You can take it at your own pace on the day but once you start training, you will be surprised at how quickly you progress.”

Fancy a solo challenge? No problem! “We work very hard to bring people together; we get a lot of people who do come on their own but never feel alone. People who join our challenges aren’t on their own for very long – it is a very uniting experience.”
