Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Rosslyn Chapel – and how to get a free annual pass upgrade

One of Scotland’s best known and much loved buildings still intrigues new and returning visitors – and there’s a very special offer.
Rosslyn Chapel, just seven miles south of Edinburgh in Midlothian, has been enchanting visitors for centuries.
Founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair it has inspired visitors, writers and artists for generations, and one of the most renowned is Dan Brown, author of the famous Da Vinci Code, a bestselling book which went on to become a blockbusting film.
When I decided to write The Da Vinci Code, I knew that its finale would have to take place at the most mysterious and magical Chapel on earth – Rosslyn
A great time to visit
The chapel is a popular place to visit for people from Scotland, the UK and around the world – and demand for tickets is high, especially in the spring and summer season. It’s what makes this time of year a good time to visit, especially if you’re local.
It is open daily, with each day split into 90-minute segments so that it does not become too crowded and all visitors get to walk round and explore in comfort.
Chapel Guides give talks throughout the day so you can sit back and listen to the history and legends associated with the building.
And all visitors get a free carvings map to help them locate the most significant stone carvings inside and outside this stunning building.

Centuries of history
The chapel is almost 600 years old and is famous around the world for its architecture and amazing medieval stonecarvings.
Key features to look out for
Look out for the Apprentice Pillar, said to have been designed by the Master Mason’s young apprentice. How many Green Men can you count – there are said to be over 100 inside and outside, and keep your eyes peeled to find the Chapel’s angels including one playing bagpipes!
There’s only one inscription carved into the stone; can you see it and work out what it says?
