Portugal has scooped a string of accolades in recent years, bringing it to many people’s attention as a potential place to relocate.

And a free event in Edinburgh this November will gather experts in every field, from visa processes to home ownership, to answer every question retirees could have on planning a straightforward move to the sun.

Portugal’s many crowns

The recent Global Retirement Report from Global Citizen Solutions, one of Europe’s leading consultancies for second citizenship, residency, and relocation, named Portugal as the world’s best location for retirees, while the World Golf Awards have crowned Portugal as the Best Golf Destination in the World for the last three years running.

In terms of second homes, market-leading international property agent Savills has also reported that Portugal had Europe’s second strongest growth in real estate investment volumes in Q1 2025.

Portugal’s southern Algarve region has also been attracting keen attention. The 2025 Post Office Holiday Money Report named it the world’s most affordable holiday destination, while the Algarve was also crowned the World’s Leading Beach Destination at the 2024 World Travel Awards – for the third time.

Regular flights from Scotland

Portugal’s increasingly high international profile has put the country on the radar of many of those seeking an enhanced lifestyle in an idyllic overseas location. And with a growing number of flights between Scotland and Portugal – including to the mainland cities of Lisbon, Porto and Faro, and to Funchal on the island of Madeira – it is easier than ever for Scots to explore the possibility of relocating to the sun.

These and other factors have resulted in a surge of interest from Scots keen to know more about Portugal’s year-round sunshine, outdoor lifestyle, appealing tax benefits and award-winning credentials.

As a result, the UK’s premier event for those considering relocating to Portugal, the Moving to Portugal Show and Seminars, is coming to Scotland for the first time on Friday 21st November 2025. Taking place at Edinburgh’s iconic Scotsman Hotel from 12hrs to 7pm, the show is ideally suited to anyone actively considering a new life overseas.

In the last six months, enquiries from Scottish residents thinking of relocating to Portugal have grown tremendously. Enquiries have focused particularly on residency, property purchases and long-term lifestyle changes. In order to meet this surge in demand, we’re delighted to bring the Moving to Portugal Show to Edinburgh in November, to connect potential movers with the best advice and resources
