This retro photo gallery shows trains, railway stations, passengers and staff around Scotland during the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
It captures the last days of the steam age, and shows the railway service before and after the Beeching cuts.
Several lost stations, axed as part of the sweeping review in the 60s, are pictured shortly before, and in some cases after, they closed.
Queen Elizabeth II is pictured waving from a train as she travels through the Borders, a mother and child are seen bidding a tearful farewell to a soldier as he departs on a tour of duty, and crowds are seen queuing for the holiday special train.
These pictures show how much rail travel has changed over the last half a century, from the trains we travel on to the way we buy tickets.
British Railways staff are seen lighting and turning off the old gas lamps, preparing sheets for the sleeper trains and making announcements using loud hailers, long before the service was broken up and privatised.
Do these photos bring back any memories for you? What do you think of how rail services have changed since they were taken in the 50s, 60s and 70s?
