Great British Menu winner returns to Glasgow for exclusive takeover event
Two fried chicken restaurants are coming together for one day only in Glasgow this May Day bank holiday.
Birds Fried Chicken heads to West Side Tavern this May Day bank holiday weekend for a one-day-only takeover set to bring bold flavours, tequila cocktails and a packed beer garden to Glasgow’s West End.
Taking place on Saturday 2 May, ‘Birds n’ Boujee’ sees Birds founder Nick Watkins joined by James Cochran, who is coming up from London for the occasion.
Known for his Great British Menu win and his London fried chicken concept Around The Cluck (ATC), MrCochran links up with Watkins to bring the two kitchens together for the first time in a Glasgow-exclusive pop-up.
The menu will centre around a line-up of fried chicken favourites, bringing together both chefs’ ingredient led approach across burgers, tenders and wings, alongside a selection of sides.
Located in West Side Tavern’s beer garden from 12pm through to 9pm, with 90-minute sittings available throughout the day, giving guests the chance to drop in across the afternoon and evening.

A bespoke cocktail list, created in partnership with El Jimador, will also run throughout the day.
Bookings are now live via West Side Tavern’s website. Guests should select Saturday 2 May and select the Birds n’ Boujee event when prompted.
Speaking of the upcoming event, James Cochran said; “I had an absolute blast when we took over the El Perro Negro kitchen a couple of years back, so a return visit and collab with Birds was a no-brainer! And West Side Tavern is the perfect spot for it. My dad is from Glasgow, so it’s always great to come back to the city he calls home.”
Birds Founder, Nick Watkins spoke of his excitement about the takeover, saying: “It will be brilliant to have James in town again and we can’t wait to collaborate with the team at West Side Tavern. The menu is another winner and we know that Glasgow is going to go mad for it. Get booked in quickly to avoid disappointment!”
Josh Barr, founder of West Side Tavern added: “It’s exactly the kind of event we love at West Side Tavern - great food bringing people together. What bank holidays are made for! Hopefully the Glasgow weather gets the memo...”
This event marks the latest in a growing run of collaborations for Birds, as it continues to expand its Rare Birds event series. Working with some of the most exciting names in food, bringing its fried chicken into new spaces and new settings across the city and beyond.
