TRNSMT 2026: Cammy Barnes to open main stage at Glasgow festival this summer

Cammy Barnes will be the first act to perform on TRNSMT’s Main Stage this year.

Scottish singer-songwriter Cammy Barnes has been announced as the opening act for TRNSMT 2026.

The rising folk country star, who is known for his dynamic live performances, will open the Main Stage at this year’s festival on Friday, June 19. It follows his appearance at TRNSMT last year when Tom Walker brought him out to play bagpipes during his song Leave a Light On.

Speaking about his upcoming set, Barnes said: “TRNSMT is always one of my highlights of the summer, and I can’t wait to open the Main Stage this year.

“Last year it was amazing to stand on stage with Tom Walker and play the bagpipes in front of the TRNSMT crowd.

“Now I can’t believe I’m going to be back on that stage performing my own songs. I’m so excited to get out there and kick off an incredible weekend of live music.”

Originally from Fife, Barnes joins the line-up alongside Richard Ashcroft and Wolf Alice, as well as fellow Scots Dylan John Thomas and The Beta Band. He previously headlined the River Stage at TRNSMT in 2024.

Who is Cammy Barnes?

A past Red Hot Chilli Pipers member, Barnes first found fame on Britain’s Got Talent in 2023, where he reached the live semi-finals with a performance of Caledonia.

Since his time on the show Barnes has reached number one on the UK iTunes chart with his single Bonnie’s Song, and officially made the UK Official Charts top 10 last year with his song Whiskey Roll.

He also supported Amy Macdonald on tour - who will also perform on the Main Stage at TRNSMT this year - during her two massive shows at the OVO Hydro in December 2025.

Currently on tour around Scotland, Barnes recently sold-out a two night run at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom in September.

TRNSMT festival director Geoff Ellis said: “We’re really excited about having Cammy Barnes kick off this year’s festival in style - he is on such a steep trajectory having just recently sold out two nights at the legendary Barrowland in minutes!

“It’s the ultimate Scottish opening to the nation’s biggest live music event and throughout the weekend we’re showcasing the best the country has to offer, from Cammy at the very start to Lewis Capaldi closing on the Sunday.”

TRNSMT 2026 will take place at Glasgow Green from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21. You can find out more about the festival and tickets, here.
