Watch as severe flooding hits North Berwick street after heavy overnight rain
Torrential rainfall overnight has led to flooding and travel disruption in several areas across Edinburgh and the Lothians, with key roads submerged and public transport affected.
Significant rainfall overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday has caused flooding in a number of areas throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians, disrupting travel and leaving some streets underwater.
After a period of comparatively dry and mild weather, the region experienced a sudden and intense downpour, which resulted in streets in North Berwick turning into rivers.
An eyewitness in the area described the floodwaters as reaching 'above my ankles' while walking through an East Lothian street.
In Longniddry, another street was left submerged, with vehicles cautiously attempting to pass beneath a flooded bridge during the morning commute. Reports also indicated thunder and lightning in Whitburn, adding further disruption to the overnight deluge.

Edinburgh Travel News reported substantial flooding on Slateford Road near Allan Park. Public transport was also affected, with Lothian Buses forced to reroute some services due to flooding in Bankhead. Specifically, services 32 and 36 have been diverted via Bankhead Avenue and Bankhead Drive, as Bankhead Crossway North is currently inaccessible in both directions.
The Met Office has since confirmed that the heaviest rainfall has moved on.
The latest weather forecast for the region states: 'Heavy rain clears early morning, sunny spells following in afternoon. Cloudy to start with occasionally heavy rain and some blustery winds at times. This soon clears east through the morning to allow increasing bright spells, and just the odd coastal shower. Maximum temperature 16 °C.'
