Edinburgh’s is a city that is constantly evolving – from the trams to the new St James Quarter much has changed in recent decades.
From housing developments and purpose built student flats, to luxury hotels and shopping centres, there are always plenty of major developments looking for planning permission.
And while the large building projects often grab the headlines, it’s often the public realm projects that have the biggest impact on the city.
From parks to roads, these are the schemes that transform the areas we all share - whether it be Edinburgh residents, students or tourists.
Website www.Skyscrapercity.com keeps a record of these developments from the initial planning application to completion dates, thanks to the tireless work of dedicated contributor Kenspeckle, and lists numerous developments across the city.
Here are 13 of the biggest, what they'll look like when completed, and what stage they're at in the planning and construction process.
