Edinburgh’s is a city that is constantly evolving – from the trams to the new St James Quarter much has changed in recent decades.
From housing developments and purpose built student flats, to luxury hotels and shopping centres, there are always plenty of major developments looking for planning permission.
Big plans can prove controversial, often prompting objections to building projects that locals worry could have a detrimental impact on their city.
But the city always needs more housing and facilities, which is where the developers come in.
Website www.Skyscrapercity.com keeps a record of developments from the initial planning application to completion dates, thanks to the tireless work of dedicated contributor Kenspeckle, and lists numerous developments across the city.
Here are 10 of the biggest, what they'll look like when completed, and what stage they're at in the planning and construction process.
