Police arrested and charged a 16-year-old male.

Two police officers have been assaulted and injured by a large group of youths following a traffic stop incident in Aberdeen.

A police car was also vandalised during the incident at Bryon Square.

Police arrested and charged a 16-year-old male after officers stopped and seized an alleged illegal electric bike at about 9:15pm on Sunday.

Officers also issued a warning to an 18-year-old man in connection with alleged shoplifting from a nearby premises.

While police were at the scene, Police Scotland said a large group of youths gathered and carried out serious anti-social behaviour and violence toward officers.

Chief Inspector Vicky Stables, of Police Scotland, said: “This violent and anti-social conduct towards police is completely unacceptable.

“Our officers must be kept safe when doing their job and I’d like to thank them for their professionalism in the face of such disorder in our local community. Rest assured that inquiries are ongoing to identify and deal with the youths involved.”

Ms Stables added: “It shouldn’t be forgotten that this incident began with the stopping of an illegal electric bike.

“The use of these vehicles poses a serious risk to the public and their continued anti-social use will not be tolerated.

”Police Scotland said Operation Armour is an ongoing initiative to disrupt the illegal use of electric bikes and disorder.

Ms Stables urged members of the public to contact Police on 101 if they have any information that could assist officers.
