Scotland weather: Schools and roads closed after temperatures plummet to -11C
Temperatures fell as low as minus 11C overnight in parts of the country
Disruption caused by snowy and icy weather is continuing with schools and roads closed on Friday, as people in many parts of the country wake up to below freezing temperatures.
According to the Met Office, temperatures of -11C were recorded in Loch Glascarnoch in the Scottish Highlands overnight, with the mercury dipping below minus 7C across much of the country.
A Met Office yellow weather for ice is in place until 11am across Grampian, Highland, Orkney and Shetland.

Forecaster Simon Partridge said the “cold snap” stemmed primarily from “a little ridge of high pressure moving across the UK overnight”, adding “the main difference between that and previous nights is the winds are a lot lighter”.
Mr Partridge said that much of the country will be seeing frost this morning but that widespread sunshine is expected later in the day.
He said: “Friday is really the end of the really cold weather as things turn back to average by the time we get into the weekend.”
The freezing temperatures after several days of disruption, with schools and roads forced to close.
About 100 schools closed in northern Scotland were closed on Thursday, and the A90 was forced to shut due to the weather.
Traffic Scotland is continuing to warn of disruption to roads today and is urging people to check their routes before travelling.
It said the A939 between Cock Bridge and Tomintoul remains closed in both directions due to the weather.
