Part of East Coast rail line between Edinburgh and Fife closed for nine days as works begin

ScotRail have warned passengers to check services before travelling.
A section of the East Coast train line has been shut for nine days as “significant” works by Network Rail begin between Edinburgh and Fife.
Rail passengers who use the service, which runs between London and Aberdeen, have been urged to check their train journeys before travelling.
Network Rail says to allow for the electrification work to take place, the line between Haymarket and Dalmeny will be fully closed from Saturday (17 January) until 25 January.
Several bridges will be rebuilt and sections of track lowered to create space for overhead power lines.
Network Rail also added that the upgrades are “essential for installing the electrical equipment that will allow new battery-electric trains to run.”
The project is part of a £340m investment from the Scottish Government to electrify the Fife and Borders lines.

Some trains are being diverted through Stirling and Perth, whilst others are replaced by buses.
Customers are being advised to plan ahead, check their journey before travelling and familiarise themselves with the alternative travel options available. A route-by-route breakdown is available on the ScotRail website.
Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: “Network Rail’s upcoming work is a vital stage in the Fife electrification project, paving the way for long-term improvements that will benefit customers for years to come.
“We’ve put alternative travel plans in place to help keep people moving, and we encourage customers to take a moment to check their options before travelling. Some journeys may take longer than usual, so planning ahead will make things easier.
“Our website and the ScotRail app have the latest information, and we’ll continue to provide clear updates and support throughout the works. We appreciate everyone’s patience as these essential upgrades are delivered.”
