Missing wreck diver’s body recovered

The body of a diver who went missing while exploring a wreck has been recovered.

John Skerry, 54, became separated from a group while diving at the wreck Breda in Ardmucknish Bay near Oban, Argyll and Bute, on Tuesday. His friends raised the alarm when he failed to surface.

A search was launched and his body was recovered by Strathclyde Police divers shortly before noon on Thursday.

Mr Skerry was from Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. His relatives have been informed and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Police said their sympathies were with his family at such a difficult time. The Breda was a Dutch steamer which sank after being attacked by a German plane in 1942.
