Glasgow Central has increased its lead as Scotland's busiest station, new figures showed today.

More than 32 million people used the station in 2016-17 - 2m more than the previous year - according to the Office of Rail and Road, which regulates tracks and stations owner Network Rail.

The hub of the largest suburban rail network outside London pulled further ahead of Edinburgh Waverley, whose passengers increased by nearly 1m to 22.6m.

However, at the other end of the scale, Barry Links in Angus was used by just 24 people - or two a month, down from 68 the previous year.

Breich in West Lothian, which was last month reprieved from closure, was second bottom with 48, down from 138.

It was threatened with being shut because of the cost of upgrading work needed at the station as part of electrification of the Edinburgh-Glasgow line via Shotts.
