Edinburgh Waverley passengers report 'sparks across platform' as trains delayed and cancelled
Trains have been subjected to cancellations and delays following the power outage at Edinburgh Waverley this morning (July 15)
Passengers are facing delays at Edinburgh Waverley this morning with reports of “sparks across the platform” at one of Scotland’s busiest train stations.
Services to and from Edinburgh Waverley have been subject to cancellations and delays this morning after a “loss of power to the overhead wires”, according to Network Rail Scotland.

One person who boarded a TransPennine Express service to Manchester at 8.12am this morning said that another passenger “nearly jumped out her skin” after hearing “proper big bangs” as the electrics tripped in the overhead wires.
The eyewitness also said that there were “sparks across the platform” during the incident, with only diesel-fueled trains able to move during the outage.
Network Rail Scotland said in an update to commuters at 9.06am: “Power has been restored at Edinburgh Waverley and services can run again.”
However, there was warning that “short-term disruption” will affect journeys as timetables return to normal.
Network Rail Scotland added: “Working with our operators to get services back to normal. As you can imagine, with so many services using Waverley, it takes time to get things back in position, but we'll do this ASAP.”
ScotRail has also confirmed there is disruption to its services running through Edinburgh Waverley.
The transport company said in an update to customers: “Due to a train fault at Edinburgh, train services running through this station will be cancelled, delayed or revised.”
