They said the photo of Alan, who ran the bar on West Nile Street for over a decade, held “immense sentimental value” to staff and the people who knew him.

They said they had CCTV footage of the individual who removed the photograph and hoped the situation could be dealt with privately.

The statement, posted on Facebook and Instagram, read: “We are deeply saddened to say that a photograph of Alan, who ran Vroni’s for more than 15 years and is no longer with us, has been stolen from the premises.

“This image holds immense sentimental value to our team and to many who knew Alan and still come to toast that picture and reminisce on their time together.

“You have stolen that from them. It is not replaceable. We have CCTV footage of the individual who removed the photograph. Our sincere hope is to have this resolved privately and respectfully.

“We ask that the photograph be returned to the bar as soon as possible. If it is returned within 24 hours, no further action will be taken.

“Failing this, the matter including CCTV images will be passed on to the police.

“Alan gave years of his life to Vroni’s and to the people in it. Please do the right thing and help us honour his memory.”

Vroni’s opened in 1995 and is named after a mountain top ski bar in the Austrian Alps. A favourite haunt among locals, the bar is known for its selection of wine and champagnes and recognisable by its green and white striped awning.
