Up to ten centimetres of snow could fall on high ground during the nine-hour alert.

The Met Office has issued an overnight weather warning for snow and ice across parts of central and northwest Scotland.

The Met Office said between 2-5 cm of snow is expected widely across the area, with 10 cm possible in areas on high ground above 350 metres.

A yellow weather warning for wind is currently in force across central, southern and north-east Scotland, and runs until 8pm on Thursday evening.

Gusts of between 50-55 mph are set to be widespread while coastal areas could see winds of up to 60 mph or even 70 mph.

Travel disruption is expected across Scotland on Thursday due to the strong winds, with some trains delayed and ferries cancelled.

The areas affected by the latest snow warning are:

  • Perth and Kinross
  • Stirling
  • Aberdeenshire
  • Highland
  • Argyll and Bute

Travel is likely to be affected in the impacted areas, with possible disruption to bus and train services.

The Met Office also warned of icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, with the potential for injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
