Scotland's 20 best care homes in 2026 based on reviews - and their weekly fees

From the Lothians to the Highlands, the awards recognise the top-rated care homes.

This year's awards were determined from over 119,000 reviews received between February 2025 and February 2026.

All 20 Scottish sites have scores of either 10 or 9.9 out of 10 on carehome.co.uk.

Glencairn Care Home, in Edinburgh, made it on the top 20 list and one reviewer said: “The care home runs very smoothly with staff - nothing a problem to them.

“If I have it, it gets solved quickly. My opinion is that there's good running from the manager and the team.

“If anyone is looking for accommodation for their loved ones, I recommend this care home. They are looked after very well. And treated with respect, and you know they are safe.”

Birches Care Home, in Crieff, offers personalised residential and residential dementia care to older people.

They made it on the top 20 list with one review saying: “Our mother is now in her second year at The Birches.

“It is clear that the high standards are being consistently maintained. The carers are kind, patient, and genuinely attentive.

“Communication is excellent and willingness to answer any questions we have. We feel confident in our choice of care and we extremely grateful to the entire team for their dedication and kindness.”
