Campbell Petrie, 50, was found guilty of two counts of rape, indecent assault, assault with intent to rape and assault to injury and danger of life

A former Police Scotland officer has been convicted of nine of charges - including rape and sexual assault - committed over 17 years while he was a serving cop.

At the High Court in Glasgow Campbell Petrie, 50, was found guilty of two counts of rape as well as charges of indecent assault, assault with intent to rape and assault to injury and danger of life.

He was a serving officer at the time of these offences - between 2006 and 2023.

Petrie was arrested and charged, and suspended from duty, in December 2023 and Police Scotland have confirmed he retired from the force in December 2025.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced next month.

Detective Superintendent Adam Brown, from the Public Protection Unit said: "Violence against women and girls is an absolute priority for Police Scotland and we will relentlessly pursue the perpetrators of these crimes.

"Our thoughts are very much with the victims in this case and I commend their strength in reporting these crimes and bringing Campbell Petrie to justice.”

DSI Brown said Petrie was off duty when the crimes were committed but assured Police Scotland will “identify and investigate” any officer involved in crime.

He added: "We understand how difficult it can be to report these kinds of offences, particularly when the perpetrator is a police officer.

“I want to reassure the public we will identify and investigate these officers whether they are serving or retired, or whether their crimes are committed on duty or, as in this instance, off duty.

"Petrie will now face the consequences of his actions and today's outcome should serve as an illustration of our determination in those investigations and I hope that this outcome may bring some closure to those affected by this case."

Police Scotland officer Alan Greer took his own life in May while under investigation for a string of violent sex attacks over a 14-year period.

Greer was arrested on April 24 this year after a woman came forward to say she was raped in her home in Glasgow in 2012.

She had called police to report being the victim of a crime.

The matter triggered an investigation by the police anti-corruption unit, leading to Greer’s arrest and suspension from duty.

The 47-year-old was released without charge pending further investigation, and was found dead on May 6.

The scale of his offending became clear when officers recovered thousands of graphic images and videos on his phones.

He attacked at least nine women over 14 years, five of whom were sex workers.

The case has been compared to that of Wayne Couzens, the former Metropolitan Police officer imprisoned for the rape and murder of Sarah Everard.

An independent review of the case is to be carried out.
