Scottish National Lottery: Greenock welder jokes he can 'eat steak every day' after lottery win

As well as enjoy small pleasures - the pair are looking to buy their dream family home.

A hard-working couple from Greenock have shared their aspirations after winning £1 million in the national lottery.

Arsenio Navarro Jr, 36 and and his wife Reyna, 38 have been married for 15 years and relocated to Scotland from the Philippines so he could take up a job as a welder.

The pair have been saving to buy a family home, with Reyna working two jobs to help the couple to get on the property ladder.

The 36-year-old said: “The warmth of the people and the beauty of the landscape very quickly helped us realise this was home.

“We have worked tirelessly, with Reyna juggling two jobs, first as a cleaner and more recently as a factory operative, to get on to the property ladder.

“We’re so excited to now start the search for our dream family home in a place that has been so welcoming and now it turns out, so lucky.”

Reyna added: “When we spoke to The National Lottery head office and it slowly sank in, we realised this was real and our dreams of a family home would come true, many years quicker than we could ever have thought possible and we will never take that for granted.”

The couple enjoy the simple pleasures in life, and said they aren’t the type for extravagant spending.

Arsenio joked: “We love the local produce here in Scotland so the idea I could eat a Scottish steak every day if I wanted was one of my first million pound dreams!”

“We’re not ones for lavish spending or luxury holidays, the small things make us happy. Good Scottish food, simple comforts, that’s enough for us.”

The pair said they also hope the winnings will allow them to spend more time together around their busy work schedules.

“Some nights we don’t see each other at all,” said Reyna.

“I get home at 8pm and Arsenio leaves for his night shift at 5.30pm.”

“Maybe now I won’t need to work overtime, I’ll just be able to work my normal hours,” Arsenio added.

The couple also have a holiday to the Philippines planned in March to visit family.

Lynn Devlin, winners’ advisor at Allwyn, the company that operates The National Lottery, said: “We are absolutely delighted for Arsenio and Reyna.

“It’s great to know that a lucky moment will bring years of joy, and it’s a wonderful example of how The National Lottery changes lives.”
