TIME’s new ranking of the World's Top 500 Universities features a number of famous Scottish institutions on its list.
The latest rankings place emphasis on the extent to which students achieve extraordinary success, for example in patenting new inventions or rising to leadership roles in business.
TIME said: “U.S. and U.K. universities continue to lead in academic performance, while China's universities are catching up in innovation and economic impact.
“But they also reveal an uncomfortable reality: in most countries, these top universities are most accessible to children from high-income families, limiting their socioeconomic diversity.”
You can see the methodology behind the results here.
