Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg stripped of MBE
Stuart Hogg’s name has appeared on a list of people to have their honours taken away.
Former Scotland rugby union captain Stuart Hogg has been stripped of his MBE.
The news comes from an official notice in The Gazette which reads: "The King has directed that the appointment of Stuart William Hogg to be a Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 30 December 2023 shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order."
In 2024 Hogg pleaded guilty to a domestic abuse charge against his by then estranged wife and was subsequently given a one-year community payback order.

He had been given an MBE in the 2024 New Year honours for his services to rugby.

Hogg played for Glasgow Warriors from 2010 to 2019, joining Exeter Chiefs in 2019 and retiring in 2023. He then joined Montpellier in 2024.
He remains one of Scotland's all-time leading try scorers and was awarded the MBE for his services to the sport.
After he admitted shouting and swearing and acting in an abusive manner towards his estranged wife there were calls to strip him of the honour, with First Minister John Swinney saying such calls were "reasonable and understandable".
