A newspaper editor has appeared in court after being arrested and charged in connection with indecent online communications.
David McCann, editor of The Times and Sunday Times in Scotland, appeared on petition on 26 November at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. He made no plea and was remanded overnight for consideration of bail.
He reappeared on 27 November at the same court, where he was bailed for further examination.
Mr McCann, who was promoted from deputy editor at the News UK titles in July, was previously assistant editor and head of news at The Herald, and assistant news editor at the Daily Record. He also worked for The Scotsman’s sister title, the Edinburgh Evening News.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "On Tuesday 25 November, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at a property in the Edinburgh area.
"A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with indecent online communications.”
A spokesperson for News UK said: "We have been informed that David McCann, Editor of The Times and The Sunday Times in Scotland, has been made the subject of a criminal investigation unrelated to his work. He has been suspended from the business. We will not be making any further comment at this time."
