We’ve compiled a list of stunning castles all on the market across agents Savills, Knight Frank, Rettie and Strutt and Parker.
While some castles are more modern than others, all properties on the list offer some historic charm and are situated in the beautiful Scottish countryside.
One castle was even commissioned in 1467 as a wedding gift for Princess Mary Stuart, daughter of King James II of Scotland who was a direct descendant of Robert The Bruce.
Meanwhile, a 20-bedroom 19th-century castle on the list is said to be a 'living museum' with all contents of the property included in the sale.
Here are seven Scottish castles that are on the market.

9. Cakemuir Castle (offers over £2.9m)
Cakemuir Castle is located in the peaceful countryside of Midlothian. Dating back to the 16th century, this Category B listed castle once offered refuge to Mary Queen of Scots in 1567, as she fled Borthwick Castle disguised as a pageboy. Today, a stone plaque at the base of the tower’s original spiral staircase commemorates her stay, bearing the initials ‘MR’ and the date 11th June 1567. It is on the market with Rettie for offers over £2.9 million. | Rettie

10. Beautiful French windows lead to the garden area
At Cakemuir, two original stone circular turnpike staircases still serve the interior, giving access to accommodation set over four floors. The principal rooms on the ground floor incorporate a large, bright reception hall and formal dining room. The reception hall is currently being used as a formal sitting room with a central open fireplace. Three pairs of French windows lead out to the south facing garden terrace, making this a fantastic entertaining space in both the summer and winter months. | Rettie

11. Brankstone Grange Castle (offers over £3.45m)
Brankstone Grange Castle, in Fife, is believed to date from around 1864 and was designed by David Bryce of Edinburgh, with later additions by Sir R R Anderson. The property is a stone-built baronial mansion with a feature castellated tower, with accommodation arranged predominantly over three floors and with a further two floors in the tower. It has eight bedrooms and four bathrooms. It is on the market with Strutt and Parker for offers over £3.45 million. | Strutt and Parker
