Schools in Inverclyde taken offline after 'cyber incident'
An email sent to parents on Sunday said the council was taking precautionary steps following the incident.
Schools in Inverclyde have been taken offline with access to emails blocked following a “cyber incident”.
In an email to parents shared online, the council said it had activated its “response plans” as a precautionary step after it experienced cyber incidents including one where a user account was “compromised”.
The email said that while schools were open as usual on Monday, it had taken them temporarily offline while investigations take place.
A spokesperson said the council did not believe the incidents were ransomware attacks - the type of attack that encrypts personal data until a ransom is paid.

Parents have been told schools and nurseries will not be able to access emails, while students may face difficulties accessing school lunch apps.
The council said it would update parents with more information as soon as possible.
A spokesperson for Inverclyde Council said: “We have experienced cyber incidents which include an education user account being compromised.
“We continue to work with the relevant authorities and partners.
“We do not believe these incidents to be ransomware attacks.”
Inverclyde has six secondary schools, 20 Primary Schools and 20 nurseries.
